I want to share a story.
Years ago, I started my first corporate role after graduating from university. On my very first day, one of the senior executives who had interviewed me came up to me and gave me a big hug. She welcomed me to the company and told me she was thrilled I had chosen to join the team — and that if I ever needed anything, I shouldn’t hesitate to reach out.
Now, hugging in the office isn’t exactly commonplace in business environments here in Australia. And I was just a fresh graduate, while she was about four levels above me in the corporate reporting line.
But that moment stayed with me.
It was small.
It took her seconds.
Yet years later, I still remember exactly how it made me feel.
Often, it’s the smallest gestures that leave the deepest impression.
A kind word.
An introduction.
A moment of recognition.
As we reflect on what International Women’s Day really means to us here at Almond Shape HQ, we’re reminded that meaningful change doesn’t always come from grand gestures. Sometimes it begins with simple acts of kindness between women.
So in the spirit of women supporting women, here are four creative but meaningful ways to uplift the women around you — both personally and professionally.
1. Advocate For Her Career

Know a recent graduate trying to land her first role? Or a friend currently searching for a new opportunity?
Offer to write her a thoughtful LinkedIn recommendation.
Even if she works in a different industry, your words can still highlight her character, work ethic, and strengths. A genuine endorsement can go a long way in helping someone stand out.
Sometimes opening a door for someone simply starts with speaking positively about them.
2. Celebrate Her Publicly

If a colleague did an excellent job on a project, let her know — and if possible, do it publicly.
Send a message in the team chat. Mention her contribution in a meeting. Acknowledge the work she put in.
We’ve always believed that women who love themselves support other women. When you’re secure in who you are, you don’t need anyone else’s light to dim for yours to shine.
Celebrating other women doesn’t take anything away from you — it elevates everyone.
3. Connect Over Coffee

Invite a female colleague you don’t know very well out for coffee.
It sounds simple, but connection is powerful. A casual conversation can turn into mentorship, collaboration, friendship — or simply a moment where someone feels seen and included.
And of course, a good latte never hurts either.
4. Make Her Feel Seen

Think of a woman in your life who has been quietly working on herself.
Maybe she’s started a new fitness routine.
Maybe she’s building a side business after hours.
Maybe she’s been working toward a promotion at work.
Growth often happens quietly, and the journey can feel lonely.
A simple message acknowledging her effort can mean the world. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is remind someone that their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Small Acts. Lasting Impact.
At Almond Shape, we believe the way women show up for each other matters.
Not just on International Women’s Day, but every day after it too.
Because while big initiatives are important, it’s often the everyday acts of kindness — the quiet encouragement, the thoughtful introduction, the words of support — that create the strongest communities.
So this International Women’s Day, consider doing something small that might mean something big to someone else.
You never know which gesture will stay with her for years to come.
Happy International Women’s Day.
